Antonians went down with a closely contested game against Isipathana today. At half time, Isipathana led with 13 points (1 goal, 2 penalties) to 7 - the solitary goal made by the Eagles. After the breather, Antonians reduced the deficit to mere 3 points with penalty kick. Near the completion of the game, as the Colombo lad collected another penalty, Antonians managed to pull a try, but unluckily the conversion was unsuccessful. The final score read 16-15.
Out of 5 matches played so far in the league, Antonians have managed to win only the match against Wesley College. Though this season seem a better one than the last year's, Antonians have not played true to their legacy, at least not yet.

I think our boys lacked the strategical aspect. Isipatana enjoyed possession for almost 70% of the game, and were dangerous with their fast moves and tactical exploitation of the Soggy conditions at Havelock park. The ground condition near the right wing of the grand stand was wet and slippery, and isipatana kickers were always targeting that area at which fielding the high ball was slow. They scored their try and of the penalties from that end commiting the defence to crack !

I simply don't understand why the coach or any of the officials who are past players, didn't observe this and get the Antonians to do exactly the same when they had that advantage in the second half.

Antonians controlled only 30% of possession and did well to go down by a single point only. However, many spectators were of the view that Antonians kicked too much and the Isipatana catchers were ever ready to call "marked" and gain possession whenever Antonians kicked. That's the way to go on a rainy day. But

why didnt the antonians do the same thing? why do you want to struggle catching a SLIPPERY HIGH ball and then be tackled losing all?

Strategy my friends? Strategy !! Skill alone wont win matches !! Tactics to suit the day is the right call. But dear Antonians you did well to stop a running Isipatana Attack and go down fighting til the end.
