Antonian Undergraduates' and Graduates' Association
St. Anthony's College- Kandy, one of the oldest educational institutions in Sri Lanka, has produced a countless number of brilliant personalities to the society.
Every year, over 20 Antonians graduate from local and foreign Universities. Though this may seem a relatively small number, the quality and standard of those few are of high esteem. For example, Prof. Malik Pieris, the person who discovered the deadly SARS virus; Prof. C. Sooriyakumaran, who won the Sasakawa Environmental Laureate in 1995, are among the elite.
Majority of the local Antonian Undergraduates study at the University of Peradeniya, which is the base of the Antonian Undergraduates' & Graduates' Association. In the beginning of year 2005, sixty five Antonians were studying their degree courses at the University of Peradeniya.
In year 2002, Antonian Undergraduates at Peradeniya Campus formed this Association in order to strengthen the spirit and brotherhood among them and to assist and guide young Antonians at the College with academics. Initially, collecting and gathering members was not all that easy, especially with very tight academic schedules. But through dedication & courage, the Association grew steadily in a very short amount of time while expanding to other local Universities and some foreign Universities.
The inaugural get-together of the Association was held in June 2002, at Hotel Suisse- Kandy, with the participation of Rev. Fr. Hilarion Fernando- Principal and senior staff members. Mr. D.D. Elkaduwa of Faculty of Engineering elected as the first President of the Association. . Mr. G.A.R. Galgamuwa of Faculty of Medicine, was elected as the secretary. Mr. Elkaduwa graduated in 2003, with First Class honours & currently studying for his PhD in Australia. Mr. G.A.R. Galgamuwa is now in his final year at the faculty.Since the inauguration, get-together and AGM is organized annually, giving chance for the Antonian Undergraduates and Graduates to meet and remember old and sweet college days.
