SACKOBA Parent Body prepares for centenary celebrations

The Parent Body of Old Boys’ Association will be completing its 100th year of existence in 2011. The centenary celebrations are to commence later this year. The Parent Body has always been at hand to assist in fund raising events, admissions, educational activities and the development of sports. It also contributes monthly towards the fees payable to the cricket coaches.

Cricket has been an integral part of Muttiah Muralitharan for over two decades now. It's probably why the Sri Lanka spin wizard, who bid Test cricket goodbye in fairytale style on Thursday, couldn't visit the institution he studied in. Rev Fr Stephen Abraham (78), who was principal of St Anthony's college, Kandy now hopes for a visit by Murali.

St. Anthony’s College, Kandy celebrated the most prestigious occasion with the Annual Prize Giving 2009 on the 1st of July 2010 at the College Auditorium. His Lordship the Chief Justice Hon Joseph Asoka Nihal de Silva, the  32nd Chief Justice in Sri Lanka - a distinguished member of the Antonian Alumni, graced the occasion as the chief guest accompanied by Madam Ramani De Silva. He is the 2nd Antonian to rise up the pinnacle of the judiciary. 

Spirited Antonians make the champs made to fight till the end

Antonians made the unbeaten league champs St. Peter’s to fight with their hearts out in the league finale staged at Nittawela. After the date had been shifted due to clash with club Rugby schedule, SPC – SACK match was promised to be a thriller as the Antonians were determined to give their best against the best of this season.

Juniors organize Lama Pola

Young Eagles in the Primary organized their Lama Pola (Children’s Fair) today. Kids, parents and the teachers worked hand in hand to make a fruitful effort. Many items including stationary, ornaments and food items were on sale. Distinguished old boys including the principal – Rev. Fr. Titus Rodrigo were present.

Antonians bag the Rajans

A flurry of tries in the end ensured a convincing win for the Antonians over the Rajans at Nittawela today. Earlier on, Antonians drew the first blood with a goal; however, by the half time, Rajans were ahead by a whisker at 13-12. Yet, after the breather, a rejuvenated Antonian side ran rout over Dharmaraja as they bagged 27 points in the second half alone while the Rajans failed to bother the scorers.

After a lapse of about two rugby-less weeks, Antonians will take on the Rajans at Nittawela  today.   Antonians, meanwhile, are currently in the 7th position in the league table with having won only two matches out of six. The Prince of Wales game scheduled to be played last week was postponed. It has been a mix bag with tough luck and good Rugby action for the boys. 

Eagles emerge victorious over the Lions

On a day swarmed with Rugby action, Antonians emerged victorious over the traditional rivals – Trinity at Nittawela today. Having lost far too many close encounters by SACK, the pressure was on to pull a victory to set things right. Antonians were in fact playing a match in Kandy after four games.
After the kick off, Antonians drew first blood with two tries by the breather.
